HR firm PageUp suspects major data breach

A possible data breach at a prominent HR firm could have compromised the personal information of thousands.

Sydney-based PageUp launched an investigation, according to ABC News, after they spotted some ‘unusual activity’ within their internal set-up.

PageUp has over two million users across almost 200 countries – including Telstra, Coles and Medibank. Clients have reportedly released statements to their workers – as well as to candidates who may have applied for jobs within their organizations via PageUp.

In a statement, chief executive Karen Cariss added: “On 28 May 2018 our investigations revealed that we have some indicators that client data may have been compromised, a forensic investigation with assistance from an independent third party is currently ongoing.

"We take cyber-security very seriously and have been working together with international law enforcement, government authorities and independent security experts to fully investigate the matter."

Coles suspended their job sites as a precaution to the potential breach – though they prefaced that they were “not currently aware of any fraudulent activity relating to anyone's data”.

"However,” the statement read, “we recommend that any person who has applied online for a position with Coles in the past 18 months check to ensure that there has been no recent unusual activity concerning their personal information and maintain a close watch on the use of their personal information."
